This is the standard sized dispersion plate that's made of aluminum. A consumer may choose to go with a bigger plate to add more pressure or accommodate pods. Similarly, switching to a smaller dispersion plate allows for more coffee in the portafilter. In most cases for ground espresso, a 3mm dispersion plate is best.
